Dedicated Vets in Thame

Changes to our Weekend Consultations

To All Our Clients.

Our aim at Sprinz and Nash is to offer our best customer service and clinical care possible. We are however, like most other Veterinary practices, working with the limitations and challenges of the current conditions that are affecting the Veterinary Profession in the UK.

Our preferred chosen service for many years now, has been for our own Vets to provide 24 hour on-call care from our Thame Hospital. The nationwide shortage of Vets together with Covid restrictions have affected our Staffing levels and therefore our ability to provide this service for the last eighteen months or more. As you are probably aware, we have opted to use the services of an out of hours provider, Vets Now at High Wycombe. Vets Now are now also severely challenged for available Staff and are sadly closing for the month of August.

I am very pleased to announce that we have negotiated a professional alliance with our respected Veterinary colleagues at Hampdens in Aylesbury, who will be providing for us the same emergency out of hours service. This is overnight from 6.30pm to 8.30 am Monday to Friday and after 12.00 midday on Saturday to Monday 8.30am. If you call our Thame Hospital during these times you will be directed to the Hampdens’ out of hours service.

We will still be taking care of and treating your pet if they need to be hospitalised overnight with us at Thame. Where, however, this is not possible due to our Staffing numbers, we will prioritise your Pet’s clinical needs and they will receive the same excellent care and treatment overnight at Hampdens. If your pet has been admitted to Hampdens, they will have a planned return to Sprinz and Nash the following morning, unless it is in their clinical interests not to be moved. We will be liaising with Hampdens Vets and with you, directly, to design their best care programme.

At Thame Hospital we are booking consultations, admits for investigations and medical and surgical procedures as normal during Monday to Friday 8.30-6.30.
Our branch practices at Chinnor and Princes Risborough will open as usual, where Staffing allows, so please check if your local branch is closed, using our Facebook or website pages or telephone us before planning your visit.

Princes Risborough and Chinnor Clinics are not currently open on a Saturday morning.
Thame Hospital will be Staffed from 8.30- 12.00 for EMERGENCIES ONLY.

Please remember to order and arrange collection of your pet’s medications well in advance as Saturday collections will be severely restricted/unavailable until further notice.

We appreciate that these changes are limiting the extent of our service and wish to reassure you that high levels of clinical care remain our top priority. We thank you for your patience and understanding whilst we take the necessary steps to respond to the current difficulties. It remains our intention to extend our service as soon as Staffing allows.

We are Now Able to Vaccinate and Neuter a Wider Range of Pets.

NEW Chinnor opening.

Sprinz and Nash are still working within the guidelines of the Government and our professional bodies and we are pleased to inform you that we are now able to offer our vaccination and neutering services to more of our patients. For this reason, we have extended our Chinnor branch (OX39 4PF) Monday – Friday - by appointment only, to have extra scope for vaccinating and treating medical cases.

We are still observing physical distancing for working and currently only your pet will be admitted on to the premises at our clinics and we respectfully ask that you wait in your car or outside. We will need you to confirm that you and your family are not self-isolating or suffering any symptoms of C19 when you make the appointment.

Vaccinations available now are as follows: Dogs

  • Puppies. We prefer to start vaccinations when they are over 10 weeks old. – This means that only two visits to the surgery will be required, four weeks apart, to complete the full course.
  • Dogs who are due their first annual booster.
  • Dogs who go outside can now also have their annual boosters.

  • Kittens. We prefer to vaccinate at 12 and 15 weeks of age.
  • Booster vaccinations for cats that go outside or are in multi cat households.

All Rabbit Vaccinations. We prefer to give two injections two weeks apart to cover against Myxomatosis and the two VHDs. These can be given from any age above 5 weeks.

Dogs, cats and rabbits can be neutered if certain criteria apply; if they were to be left entire there would be an increased risk of breeding, or fighting, or disease in the reproductive tract, or behavioural issues. This will be discussed with you by one of our Vets.

If you have any questions do ring us on 01844 212000. The phones are sometimes very busy so you can email your question to

We thank you for your support of our staff during this time and remind you that we are always available to respond to the needs of you and your pet.
